Welcome to the University of South Carolina!
The University of South Carolina cares about your health and safety, and because of that we have become one of hundreds of institutions across the country taking a new approach to alcohol education.
What
AlcoholEdu is a confidential, personalized online education course used on over 500 college and university campuses across the country. The course challenges student’s expectations about alcohol while enabling them to make healthier and safer decisions.
- 5 modules of alcohol-related content
- Personalized feedback
- Interactive exercises
All of your responses are completely confidential! The University is not able to see your individual responses only aggregate information from everyone who completes the course.
Why
Thus USC-Columbia requires all incoming students under the age of 23, new to the Columbia campus, to complete AlcoholEdu for College—(a science based course taken by tens of thousands of students each year). The course aims not to preach but rather to educate students about alcohol and its effects on the mind and body.
Whether or not you drink, AlcoholEdu for College empowers you as members of the University of South Carolina community to make well-informed decisions and better cope with the drinking behaviors of your peers that you may encounter.
When (Spring 2013 admits click here)
On July 17, 2012 students will receive an email with instructions for logging into the course. Part One must be completed with a score of 80% or better by August 17, 2012. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete, and can be done in several sittings if desired. Part Two, which only takes 15 minutes, is completed after students have been on campus for at least two weeks, and must be completed by October 17, 2012. You will be notified via email when you can begin Part Two. Successful completion of both Parts One & Two must be met to satisfy the University requirement. (A hold on Spring Registration will be placed on your record until the course is completed.)
How
You will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities to take AlcoholEdu. More technical information is available on the website. Technical Help
Parents and Guardians
We welcome you to join our ongoing alcohol education and prevention initiatives. Since we encourage you to take AlcoholEdu along with your student, a separate log-in will be available to you on the website on July 17. This is a great opportunity to talk with your student about an important issue before school begins. Remember, successful completion of AlcoholEdu is required for all new, incoming students under the age of 23.
