Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center Celebrates 3^rd Anniversary

To mark its third anniversary, the University of South Carolina’s Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center will host a celebration from 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1.

Those who attend the anniversary celebration at the Center will have a chance to win prizes, which will be given away each hour. The celebration is free and open to USC faculty, staff and students.

Since the Thurmond Center opened in 2003, more than 1.3 million students, faculty and staff have enjoyed the facility’s state-of-the-art wellness and fitness opportunities. The Thurmond Center also has hosted more than 50,000 guests for special events and tours.

“It is an extremely functional and beautiful building,” said Jerry Brewer, director of student life. “I think everyone in the University community takes pride in the building and the recreation programs offered in the facility for students, faculty and staff.”

In its first three years, the Thurmond Center has received national recognition. In 2004, the Thurmond Center received the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association’s Outstanding Sports Facility Award. In 2005, the Thurmond Center was only one of six university facilities to receive the Athletic Business Facility of Merit.
