University names Scott Verzyl Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Management
Scott
Verzyl will continue as University of South Carolina director of
undergraduate admissions, a post he’s held since 2004, and will
assume new responsibilities as assistant vice provost for
enrollment management, effective July 1.
Verzyl succeeds Kip Howard, who served as
assistant vice provost for enrollment management from 2004 until
his retirement in June.
“Scott has earned the respect and
admiration of his supervisors, peers, subordinates and
university constituents, all of whom admire his integrity and
his commitment to his work and the university,” said Dennis
Pruitt, vice president for student affairs and vice provost for
academic support. “I
know that Scott will continue to advance our nationally
recognized admissions office as he works with the other
enrollment management offices to provide a similar level of
service.”
Verzyl earned a bachelor’s degree in
management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a
master’s degree in business from Kennesaw State University.
Prior to joining the university, Verzyl
served in several leadership positions for The University of
Alabama in Huntsville, including as associate vice president for
enrollment services, registrar and director of admissions.
He previously was associate registrar and assistant
director of admissions at the Georgia Institute of Technology
and served as a senior consultant and program manager for
Systems and Computer Technology Corporation (now Sungard), where
he specialized in implementing the Banner student-information
system.
He is chair-elect of the South Carolina ACT
Council and frequently is called upon to speak and make
presentations at conferences and professional association
meetings, including most recently the Noel-Levitz National
Conference on Student Recruitment, Marketing and Retention; the
Southern Association of College Admissions Counselors; and the
Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions
Officers.
“I am honored to serve the University of
South Carolina in this new capacity and am very eager to build
on Kip’s successful enrollment management efforts,” said Verzyl.
“With Dr. Pruitt’s vision and support, Kip’s leadership
and a talented staff in the enrollment management area, we’ve
come a long way in a short time.
But, we still have more to achieve.
USC is poised on the brink of greatness, and it is
exciting to be a part of this university and to help it advance
to the next level.”
As assistant vice provost for enrollment
management, Verzyl will oversee the offices of Undergraduate
Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Orientation and
Testing, TRiO Programs and the Registrar, as well as the Career
Center and Visitor Center.
