Sidewalk near completion, lane shift set for May 3

Construction soon will be complete on the sidewalk near the western intersection of Assembly and Pendleton streets. That portion of the sidewalk will re-open to pedestrians by the end of April.

On May 3, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will shift southbound lanes of Assembly Street toward the center median in preparation for construction to begin on the eastern sidewalk of Assembly Street. There contractors will make sidewalk enhancements and install bases for the traffic signal mast arms, which later will be added at the Greene and Pendleton street intersections.

The University of South Carolina encourages all faculty, staff and students to cross Assembly Street by using the overhead bridge at Wheat Street or the tunnel between the School of Law and the Coliseum. Drivers should use Main and Huger streets in lieu of the affected area.

People with disabilities who may require special accommodations should call Lis Bleasdale at 803-737-1345.

Updates will be posted at sc.edu/assembly. For more information, call USC Design and Construction Project Manager Dwight Cathcart at 803-777-9824 or SCDOT Program Manager Julie Barker at 803-737-1365.
