The project to improve pedestrian safety along Greene Street is entering its final weeks. Construction, which centers on the intersection of Greene and Bull Streets, is scheduled to conclude in early August when crews will re-pave the affected areas and mark new bicycle lanes.
Other improvements will include new gates closing more of Greene Street to through traffic during weekdays; widened sidewalks near Pickens Street; a roundabout on Bull Street near the Russell House; and new, illuminated pedestrian pathways that provide easier access into the Gibbes Green area of campus. Major renovations to Women’s Quad residence halls and Petigru College also will enhance the area.
A concurrent project replaced the Bull Street steam line that provides heat and hot water to surrounding buildings.
During construction, drivers and pedestrians are urged to observe new signage and restrictions.
