2007 Carolina Cares Program
The Carolina Service Council and Community Service
Programs are proud to announce the 2007 Carolina Cares Program.
Throughout the month of November, University of South Carolina
students, faculty and staff are invited to fill stockings for
low-income children in Columbia. The Salvation Army is providing
1,500 stockings to be filled, which are available in Russell House
Suite 227. The stockings can be picked up between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00
p.m, and all filled stockings must be returned no later than 5:00
p.m. on November 27.
The program also includes an Adopt-A-Family
project in coordination with the Nurturing Center. This project can
be shared by an office or large group of students, who will be
assigned a family and be responsible for donating items to fulfill
that family's holiday "wish list." To request an Adopt-A-Family,
please contact Kathye Holder, Volunteer Coordinator at (803)
771-4160 or email her at
kholder@thenurturingcenter.org.
In addition to these projects, the 53rd Annual Tree Lighting
Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28th on
the Horseshoe. This ceremony will celebrate Carolina's dedication
and commitment to serving others and will include refreshments and
holiday music by the Logan Elementary choir and the University’s a
capella group Cocktails. Representatives from the Nurturing Center
and the Salvation Army will speak, as well as Student Government
President Nick Payne. Dr. Sorensen will also speak and will light
the holiday tree. For more information about Carolina Cares, contact
