Here at Carolina, students have the opportunity to get involved in different activities both inside and outside and outside of the classroom.

One of the easiest ways to develop friendships based on common interests is to join one of the 300 student organizations. Every semester, you can participate in an exciting tour of the student organizations at the Student Organization Fair. If you enjoy participating in sport competitions or just having fun with friends while working out, please visit the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center. As a student at University of South Carolina, you have access to one of the best sport and fitness competitions. If you are looking for a bite to eat, do not forget to stop at Russell House. On the second floor students can enjoy Chik-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and more. After you have had dinner with friends, Russell House has plenty more things to offer. Carolina Production, the student-run organization managing entertainment events, Show movies weekly in the Russell House Theatre. Movies are free for University students.

Like helping others in need? There are plenty of Community Service Programs offered at University of South Carolina. Carolina Service Program holds a Service Saturday once a month where students provide outreach in the Columbia community. If you are interested in find more about yourself and are willing to engage in a spiritual journey, Carolina offers over 30 different on campus ministries. International Friendship Ministry, Shandon Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Newman Ministry, the Lutheran and United Methodist Ministry, Hill of the Lord are only a few ministries that offer students support and a connection to different events on campus. Off Campus

The University has as much to offer off campus as on campus.

There are plenty of recreational and cultural opportunities. Within ten minutes of campus, you can kayak on one of the three rivers (http://www.riveralliance.org/), walk along the river at Riverwalk Park, hike through Congaree National Park (http://www.nps.gov/cosw/) or visit the Riverbanks Gardens and Zoo (http://www.riverbanks.org/).

If you are interested in art and culture, the Columbia Museum of Art (http://www.columbiamuseum.org/) has various things to offer. The State Museum (http://www.museum.state.sc.us/) also hosts various exhibitions for art lovers.

Two of the most popular places in Columbia are the located in the downtown area: Five Points and La Vista. Five Points is known for its shopping, dining, and nightlife and various activities attract college-age people to the area. La Vista offers a variety of boutiques, shops, over 60 restaurants, bars, and art galleries.
