Children are OUR future …

"I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside." -Whitney Houston

Being an education major and truly believing the significance of reaching out to children in our society today, I always like to the take the time out to help as much as I can. After previously attending this After School Program, I knew in my heart that it would be a great idea to return.

"Children are unpredictable. You never know what inconsistency they're going to catch you in next."  -Franklin P. Jones

After an introduction from Ms. Sheet's, the kids were immediately drawn to the volunteers, as they grabbed their homework, books off the shelves, even our hands to pull us to the couch and assist them with their work. It was an amazing feeling to know that we were welcomed in their every day atmosphere with open arms. When I personally feel that I am making a change throughout a particular organization, it tends to be very hard for me to want to leave. Haha.

KIDS. KIDS. KIDS. KIDS. KIDS. KIDS. KIDS. KIDS.
CHILDREN. CHILDREN. CHILDREN. CHILDREN. CHILDREN.
YOUTH. YOUTH. YOUTH. YOUTH. YOUTH.
DEVELOPMENT. DEVELOPMENT. DEVELOPMENT.
FUTURE. FUTURE. FUTURE. FUTURE. FUTURE.

Make a difference and Touch a Child's Life.

Pet’s Inc. Experience

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of bringing six students to Pet’s Inc. in West Columbia for my first Fill-the-Van of the semester. All of the students were volunteering just because they wanted to, not for service hours or anything.

It was awesome seeing all of the volunteers taking out the dogs, playing with them, even cleaning up after them. My favorite part was when it was time to head back to campus, I had to peal the volunteers of of the animals to get them to leave.

That is truly service. One of my favorite quotes from Gandhi is:

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

I was able to see first hand six students losing themselves in this service to these animals that they had just met the first time. To me, that is what service is truly about.

If you’re interested in serving and too losing yourself at Pet’s Inc. you can volunteer there anytime from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
