Initiatives

The following are ways that the Creed is integrated into the campus culture
  • Applications for first year students include a signature of understanding and commitment.
  • During Fall Convocation the President of the Student Government presents the Creed to a selected first year student on stage and asks the student to accept it and commit to its ideals on behalf of the Freshman Class.
  • A cast bronze depiction of the Creed is permanently mounted and displayed on our historic Horseshoe campus green.
  • The Creed is prominently printed in many university publications including University Housing Application, The Carolina Community, and the Final Exam Blue Books.
  • Students and their parents receive the Creed at orientation sessions.
  • Students, faculty, and staff encounter framed copies or brass plaques of the Creed in offices across campus.
  • Officer induction’s for various student groups include the Creed in their pledges.
  • The Mortar Board annually gives a Carolinian Creed award to a student who has exemplified the tenets of the Creed in his/her campus involvement.
  • Leadership training often includes aspects related to modeling the tenets of the Creed.
  • University 101 faculty extensively covers the Creed in their course.
  • Carolinian Creed week is held to celebrate the Creed.
  • An essay contest concerning the Creed is included in Creed Week activities each year.
  • The Creed is periodically scrolled on the campus cable bulletin board.
  • A copy of the Creed is mailed to all Deans, Department Chairs and new faculty each fall.
  • During Creed Week, faculty is asked to incorporate all or part of the Creed into their subject matter.
  • The Carolinian Creed web page (http://www.sa.sc.edu/creed/) promotes the Creed and explains its history, uses and impact on campus.
