USC’s Newest
Sorority Colonizes the Largest Chapter in the
Nation
September 25, 2009
It was hard to overlook their captivating
enthusiasm and charm as the women of Phi Mu
work to establish the largest Phi Mu
colonization in the country here at the
University of South Carolina.
On September 18, Phi Mu’s newest
chapter, Lambda Theta, at the University of
South Carolina, invited the maximum amount of
women to join their organization. With 252
women this will make the largest colonization
in the nation.
“We are thrilled to have Phi Mu as our
newest member of the Greek Community at
Carolina,” commented Ron Binder, Director
of Greek Life. “They bring a wonderful
set of values that will help us achieve our
goal of becoming the Premier Greek Community in
North America,” said Binder.
Recruitment has been underway for Phi Mu the
last few weeks on campus. University of South
Carolina undergraduates had the opportunity to
talk to alumna of Phi Mu from other schools in
order to determine if it would be a good fit
for them. By joining the Lambda Theta chapter,
members will not only be a part of a founding
chapter, but possibly the largest chapter ever
to be colonized by a NPC sorority in the
nation!
Phi Mu is the second oldest sorority. It was
founded in 1852 at Wesleyan College in Macon,
Ga. Since then, Phi Mu has colonized 120
collegiate chapters as well as 175 alumnae
chapters and is in the works to colonize five
more, including the Lambda Theta Chapter.
After becoming a new member of Phi Mu, the
women will be guided to pursue personal and
academic development, service to others,
commitment to excellence and lifelong
friendships through a shared tradition. As its
mission statement also states, “Phi Mu
promotes vibrant living encouraging members to
achieve their personal best.”

Recognition for Accomplishments
September 11, 2009
Several NPC fraternities at the University
of South Carolina were recognized at their
individual national conventions over the summer
for their achievements in and out of the

Members of the Alpha Beta Chapter of Chi Psi

presented annually to a particular chapter of
Chi Psi. The Alpha Beta Chapter was presented
this award for their overall improvement in the
past few years.

“credits the influence of Greek Life
director, Ron Binder, as well as the guidance
from local alumni in receiving this
award.”

Sigma Phi Epsilon
Fraternity
South Carolina Alpha Chapter
This fall, the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon will be
teaming up with the women of Alpha Delta Pi at
the University of South Carolina to raise funds
and other non-perishable items for the Hannah
House, a charity dedicated to helping homeless
women get back on their feet. Many of the
women have children, and were plagued with
abuse and addiction before coming to Hannah
House. Established in 1979, Hannah House has
helped numerous women through a three step
program to enrich the lives of the women and
their families. Hannah House is committed to
the success their residents. It is their
achievements in maintaining sobriety, building
strong families, finding and retaining
employment, and moving into independent housing
that constitutes the success of Hannah House, a
goal which Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Delta Pi
are incredibly excited to facilitate in any way
possible. The most needed items aside from
monetary donations are 33 gallon trash bags,
toiletries, paper products, medicine
(Ibuprofen, Cold/Flu), etc. If anyone would
like to make a donation, please visit the SigEp
or ADPi houses in the Greek Village. For
