F-1 OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT
CURRICULAR PRACTICAL TRAINING
Curricular Practical Training is employment
authorization for off-campus employment that allows an F-1
student to participate in USC’s Cooperative Education (Co-op)
Program, or a paid internship, practicum or research in the
student's field of study which meets USC degree requirements
(See Quick Links at right for more information on the Co-op
Program).
Depending on a student's eligibility and academic needs,
employment can be either part-time or full-time. Employment
authorization is granted by International Programs for Students,
in consultation with the student's academic department. Written
authorization for employment based upon Curricular Practical
Training must be received prior to beginning employment. Two
weeks processing time is required.
Attendance at a CPT workshop or an appointment with an
International Student Advisor is required before applying for
CPT. Application materials are distributed at the workshops.
International Programs offers workshops throughout the year.
Dates and times for workshops are announced through the INTLNEWS
electronic newsletter.
