F-1 OFF-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT

CURRICULAR PRACTICAL TRAINING

Curricular Practical Training is employment authorization for off-campus employment that allows an F-1 student to participate in USC’s Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program, or a paid internship, practicum or research in the student's field of study which meets USC degree requirements (See Quick Links at right for more information on the Co-op Program).

Depending on a student's eligibility and academic needs, employment can be either part-time or full-time. Employment authorization is granted by International Programs for Students, in consultation with the student's academic department. Written authorization for employment based upon Curricular Practical Training must be received prior to beginning employment. Two weeks processing time is required.

Attendance at a CPT workshop or an appointment with an International Student Advisor is required before applying for CPT. Application materials are distributed at the workshops. International Programs offers workshops throughout the year. Dates and times for workshops are announced through the INTLNEWS electronic newsletter.
