Student Conduct and Academic Integrity

Carolina Judicial Council

University of South Carolina students practicing, promoting and modeling the Carolinian Creed.

What is the Carolina Judicial Council (CJC)?

The Carolina Judicial Council (CJC) is a recognized Experiential Learning Opportunity in which students uphold and promote the standards of the Carolina community. Members of CJC serve on panels in judicial council hearings while upholding the strictest confidentiality, in addition to promoting the vision set forth by the Carolinian Creed.

Participation Requirements:

As a recognized Experiential Learning Opportunity, CJC members are expected to complete at least 45 hours of time on task each semester as a member. Additional details about the participation requirements are in the boxes below

All members will meet with a CJC advisor every semester in order to discuss plans for the semester, to receive feedback on performance on panels, and to identify ways that CJC can provide valuable opportunities to its members.

Members hear information concerning alleged violations of Student Code of Conduct and the Honor Code. The Council makes decisions regarding alleged violations and determine appropriate sanctions for students found responsible for such violations.

Members will be able to promote the Carolinian Creed through the planning and implementation of a number of events and initiatives throughout the academic year including our signature event, CreedX.

Members engage in a competitive recruitment process to ensure that the Carolina Judicial Council meets it’s goal of maintaining a membership reflective of the student body at the University of South Carolina. Members seek and interview qualified applicants early in the Fall semester.

Members will participate in regular training activities, including an Annual Retreat and special topics presentations during bi-weekly meetings. New members participate in an extensive, two-day New Member Training program, and all members have the opportunity to participate in Title IX trainings in order to serve on Title IX hearings.

Members are expected to attend bi-weekly meetings, held every other Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Meetings last approximately one hour, and members will discuss upcoming events, participate in special topic trainings, discuss current events relevant to our campus community and conduct boards, and receive updates from organizational leadership and advisors.

All members will meet with a CJC advisor every semester in order to discuss plans for the semester, to receive feedback on performance on panels, and to identify ways that CJC can provide valuable opportunities to its members.
