Diversity Retreat 2008
March 26-28
What is it?
This weekend-long retreat will focus on diversity and leadership.
Participants will examine the meaning of diversity, why it is
valuable, and how they can incorporate diversity into their
respective student organizations and groups. They will examine these
issues through small and large group activities and discussions. The
goal of this retreat is for participants to develop a greater
understanding of what it means to be diverse, to accept the
diversity of others and acknowledge their own diversity.
Additionally, participants will be asked to develop strategies to
incorporate diversity into their student groups as well as their
individual lives.
Past Retreat Participants’ Comments
“I came on this trip so randomly it’s crazy. I didn’t know anyone
when we got into the vans to come to Palm Key, and now I feel as if
I’m leaving with 30 new friends. I have not been very active at USC
and this retreat has inspired me to become active in things I
believe in and to educate myself and others on diversity issues.”
“The group activities helped me to grow closer to each person around
me. I felt a connection and understanding with everyone in the room.
This trip has made a remarkable impact on my life, and I hope that I
will be blessed with the ability to share and touch others’ lives
the same way mine has been touched this weekend.”
“Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to participate - great
socialization and growth experience for me personally and
professionally.”
“I cannot begin to explain how enjoyable this weekend has been for
me. Getting out of my comfort zone is something I don’t do all of
the time, and I met so many beautiful people this weekend. I’ll
never forget it.”
