JULY 2008

University of South Carolina Parent Updates – July 1, 2008

Campus Link

Dear Carolina parents,

The middle of the summer is upon us, and we hope you are enjoying this time with your student.

Parents Weekend 2008 registration is available online at www.sa.sc.edu/parents. Parents Weekend will be held Sept. 26-28, and it is an exciting time to visit the University and your student!

Registration will continue until Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. Visit our Web site to view the tentative schedule of events and to register. Please note that events will be added throughout the summer, so check back periodically for schedule updates. A final schedule of events will be given to all registered Parents Weekend participants during check-in.

All family members attending Parents Weekend activities must purchase a package. Tickets to the Alabama-Birmingham football game can be purchased in addition to your package (one per package) and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Your Carolina student is invited to attend all events with you! Student admission to the Welcome Reception and Beach Bash is included as part of your Parents Weekend package. However, if your student wishes to attend the Tailgate Party on Saturday, you must purchase a tailgate ticket for him/her. If you have any questions about registering, please call the Parents Assistance Line at 1-800-868-6752 or send an e-mail to scparents@sc.edu.

As you prepare for the fall semester, here are some updates from the University.

*For students enrolled in summer school and living on campus, the residence halls will close for Summer I on Saturday, July 5 at 10 a.m. Housing for the Summer II session opens on Sunday, July 6 at noon.

*Students can reserve their fall textbooks online with the University Bookstore at the Russell House. For more information, visit http://sc.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TBWizardView?catalogId=10001&storeId=10052&langId=-1&level=1.

*For more information about the fee schedule for 2008-2009, visit www.sc.edu/bursar/schedule.shtml.

*The University's Board of Trustees approved a 2008-09 operating budget on June 27 aimed at holding the line on costs while preserving the quality of the University's teaching and research mission. For more information, visit http://uscnews.sc.edu/2008/06272008-BTRU208a.html.

Finally, the July e-newsletter is attached. It includes articles on getting ready for college, starting to pack, helping siblings through the college transition and suggestions for staying safe during the summer.

Please continue to visit our Web site for information and resources at www.sa.sc.edu/parents. As always, we are only a phone call or e-mail away, and we encourage your feedback!
