ADVISORS

Academic advisors at USC are an integral part of the lives of both international and study abroad students and play an important role in the internationalization of the campus. Undergraduate study abroad participation at USC has increased by approximately 83% over the past two years - and this could not have happened without your support and contributions.  Advisors are not only valuable resources for prospective study abroad participants, but they are instrumental in promoting overseas study opportunities which enhance the higher education experience for USC students.

The Study Abroad staff works closely with academic advisors to ensure that students who plan to study abroad receive the support and approval to do so.  All students can benefit from studying abroad by gaining valuable knowledge and skills integral to their undergraduate degree and their future career.  Early planning is essential for an international experience that will translate into academic achievement and personal success for each student. Therefore, should advisees express interest in international issues, study abroad or travel, please refer them to the Study Abroad Office.  Ideally, students should visit the Study Abroad Office during their freshman or sophomore year.

Designed to assist you when advising for study abroad, the following pages include a basic step-by-step guide to academic advising for study abroad and a Study Abroad Timeline.  Also included is an international Credit Conversion Guide, with U.S. credit equivalencies for our partner institutions, as well as a Forms section, comprised of essential forms related to academic advising for study abroad.  Also, take a look at the Study Abroad Statistics page to find out more about what type of students are going overseas and to track participation rates by major and college.

Please contact the Study Abroad Office should you have any questions about program options, the application process, or international credit transfer.  The staff also welcomes ideas for ways we can better support your work.  The Study Abroad Office is located in the Legare College, Suite 321  Any of the staff may be contacted by calling 803-777-7557.
