NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Numerous national scholarship opportunities exist to aid you in your pursuit of an international education.  Some scholarships are specifically for students with financial need or who come from a particular ethnic background.  Other scholarships are country specific or support research, language study or the study of specific subjects abroad.  This section of the website includes many scholarships specifically for overseas study, but it is not a comprehensive list.  You are encouraged to look into these scholarships, but to research other scholarship opportunities that may fit your background, interests, and study abroad goals as well.

Once you have taken the time to review the scholarships available to you and have determined which ones you are eligible to apply for, the Study Abroad Office staff can help you by reviewing your application essays and walking you through the submission process.  The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs is another great resource for those interested in applying for national scholarships.  The Fellowships and Scholar Programs staff conducts information sessions on a range of scholarship opportunities during both the fall and spring semesters and provides assistance throughout each stage of the application process.  You can make an appointment with a member of the Fellowships staff or stop by and see them during their drop-in hours.  For more information take a look at their website located at: http://www.sc.edu/ofsp/contact.html

You will notice that an on-campus coordinator has been designated for some of the national scholarships listed on the following web pages.  This individual will be your primary contact throughout the application process and can be reached by contacting the Study Abroad Office, or the Office of Fellowships and Scholar programs where noted.  It is also important to be aware that all undergraduate students who receive national scholarships specifically for study abroad must be earning credit for their study abroad experience.
