SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

Many students think study abroad is not financially feasible, however with a little effort you can afford to study abroad!  Many low cost study abroad options are available in a range of different locations, providing courses applicable to most majors.  In addition, there are numerous scholarships for international study and nearly all financial aid and scholarships received for study on campus at USC can be applied toward study abroad.

Take advantage of scholarship opportunities!  This section is designed to assist you in identifying various sources of funding for your education abroad.  In the following pages, you will find out about national scholarships designed to support overseas study and/or research.  The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs can help you investigate and apply for national scholarships such as the Fulbright, Truman, Marshall and Rotary, to name a few.  You can also contact the Study Abroad Office for more information on the following scholarships specifically for Study Abroad:

There are also various USC Departmental Scholarships available which support study and/or research abroad.

In addition, you may also choose to apply for scholarship funding through the USC Study Abroad Office.  Affiliate Scholarships are available if you are applying to:

  • Academic Programs International
  • Academic Studies Abroad
  • American Intercontinental University
  • Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad
  • AustraLearn
  • Butler University Institute for Study Abroad
  • Center for International Studies
  • Cultural Experiences Abroad - Summer China Program Only
  • Denmark International Studies
  • Study Abroad Italy

However, keep in mind that if you are applying to study through a program provider not listed above, additional scholarship funding may be available directly through the provider.  You may access this information by visiting our Useful Links pages.

Additional sections include scholarship information and eligibility requirements for Summer Study Abroad Fellowships and Passport Travel Grants, designed to help fund a  Maymester or summer study abroad experience, as well as Useful Links for identifying helpful scholarship databases and search engines.

For more detailed information on how financial aid and scholarships can be used for study abroad, please visit the Guidelines for Using General University & State Sponsored Scholarships for Study Abroad and review the Frequently Asked Questions.  For specific questions, we recommend that you speak with a counselor in the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships.  If you will need the Financial Aid Office to release information to scholarship organizations, please complete and sign the release form.
