Who Should Come to the Counseling Center?
Everyone runs into problems at times and can use help.
We encourage you to come to see us before your problems
get worse. Most commonly we see people with symptoms of
anxiety and depression. Frequently these people have
problems in the areas of relationships, self-esteem,
communication, addictions, and academics. We are trained
to work with you to help you become more efficient at
identifying, solving, and managing these types of
symptoms and problems.
What to Expect When You Make an Appointment at the
Counseling Center
When you make an appointment at the Counseling Center
you will be assigned to see one of about twelve
professionals. We ask you to come to the appointment
about fifteen minutes early to fill out a questionnaire
and some paperwork. During the first visit or two we
will do an assessment. All information we gather is
confidential. It can only be released with your written
permission. The only exceptions to this are in life
threatening or in certain court ordered situations. We
strongly believe that strict confidentiality is the only
workable basis for our services and we carefully monitor
access to records and information.
After your initial assessment we will give you feedback
and discuss treatment options. For our kind of services
it is very important for you, the patient or client, to
be part of treatment planning process. This is a
collaborative process. We offer several types of
treatment including groups, workshops, couples therapy,
several types of individual therapy and medication. We
may recommend combining treatment modalities.
If you have paid your student health services fee, or
are a full-time student, you are eligible for 12 hours
of free service per fiscal year, (July to July).
Additional service can be paid for at a reasonable
price. If we feel it is indicated, we can refer you to
other services or service providers in the community.
We are conveniently located near the horseshoe or you
can call us at 777-5223. |
