If you have an interest in health and want to get involved
in a leadership role on campus, Student Wellness
Promotion has two opportunities available depending on
your goals as well as the amount of time and energy you
want to commit.
Peer Health Educators
Peer Health Educators is an official student organization and
are trained to provide presentations to their peers in
residence halls, academic classrooms and student
organizations; provide health screenings to their peers; assist with the development and implementation
of awareness campaigns; and are trained on various health content.
After an interview process during the Fall semester, selected Peer Health Educator candidates
enroll in a 3-credit course offered through
the Arnold School of Public Health that is
specifically designed to train them to conduct
presentations and provide screening services. Once
students pass with a grade of B or better, they are
able to fully perform the functions of a Peer Health
Educator.
Peer Health Educators meet every other Tuesday during the Fall and
Spring semesters.

Wellness Ambassadors
If you want to be involved with health
education on campus but don’t have the time to commit to
a student organization, you may become a Wellness
Ambassador.
Wellness Ambassadors are any on-campus residents or
members of a USC student organization or Greek chapter.
They agree to serve as a resource for their
group/chapter/hall, and receive updates about health
related programs and services offered through Student
Wellness Promotion and campus partners, such as Sexual Health & Violence
Prevention and Research, Alcohol and Drug Programs, and
Healthy Carolina.
The role of a Wellness Ambassador is twofold:
- to share the information they receive over the
listserv with their peers and encourage
participation in the programs and services offered
- to serve as a liaison between Student Wellness
Promotion and their residence hall, student
organization or Greek chapter in order to coordinate
health/wellness related programs and services for
their peers.
If you are interested in becoming a Wellness
Ambassador, please contact us at (803)576-9393.
