A primary role of the office is to provide support
and resources for survivors of sexual assault so that
they may begin the healing process and ultimately pursue
their academic goals. These services include referring
survivors to medical treatment, counseling, academic,
and housing resources as well as supporting the survivor
through any discipline or criminal processes they may
choose to pursue. Survivors are also invited to
participate in a support group offered through our
office during the fall and spring semesters.
SH&VP advocates are available 24-hours a day to provide
crisis intervention, assistance, and options counseling
to survivors. To reach an on-call advocate, contact the
USC Police Department at (803) 777-4215 and request that
an on-call SH&VP advocate return your call.
Another major role of the office is to raise campus
awareness about sexual assault. Sexual Health & Violence
Prevention and Research selects undergraduate students
to serve as Sexual Health Awareness & Rape Education
(SHARE) peer educators. The main focus of SHARE peer
educators is to provide workshops regarding the topics
of sexual health, high-risk behaviors, STIs,
relationship violence, consensual sex, and sexual
assault for University faculty and staff, residential
student staff, academic classes, and student
organizations.
