The Clothesline Project provides an opportunity for
survivors of interpersonal violence to paint a T-shirt
expressing their inner sorrows and triumphs. These
T-shirts are then displayed on Greene Street during
Sexual Assault Awareness Month so that others can bear
witness to the survivor's experience.
T-shirts are color-coded in order to recognize the
uniqueness of each Clothesline participant's violent
encounter:
PINK - for people
who have been sexually assaulted
LIGHT BLUE - for
survivors of incest or child sexual abuse
YELLOW
– for survivors of relationship violence
WHITE
– in remembrance of those lost to sexual assault or
relationship violence
PURPLE
– for survivors of hate crimes
Each year, specific dates and times for Clothesline
events are advertised on campus. Students, staff and
faculty are welcome to paint a T-shirt for themselves or
on behalf of a loved one at one of the sessions held on
campus. You can also visit or volunteer to staff the
grand display held on Greene Street during April.
We also invite you to attend the keynote address held
during the week of the grand display. Past speakers have
included Ellen Bass, Katie Koestner, Debbie Morris,
Reanae McNeal, Don McPherson, and "The Yellow Dress."
