Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB)

  • Declared Illegal in 1990
  • Liquid or powder form
  • Odorless, colorless, slightly salty taste (but still often undetectable in beverages)
  • Effects occur within 10 minutes and last 1-3 hours
  • Detectable in urine only within 4-5 hours of ingestion
  • Body weight, food intake, and other factors affect potency
  • Frequently combined with alcohol and has caused a number of deaths
  • Physical dependency and harsh withdrawal symptoms can occur
  • Central nervous system depressant which can cause giddiness, silliness, disinhibition, heightened sense of touch, deep intoxication, unconsciousness, seizures, vomiting, respiratory problems, hallucinations, drowsiness, dizziness, coma
  • Can be obtained for about $10 per bottle
