Relationship Violence Services

As a part of relationship violence services, the Department for Sexual Health & Violence Prevention provides 24-hour on-call advocacy response for "students-at-risk" for relationship violence. These services include:

  •  Emergency Room Advocacy - SH&VP staff can accompany "students-at-risk" to the emergency room.
     
  • "Alternative Housing" - provisions for both on-campus and off-campus students. Temporary emergency housing that can be utilized by "students-at-risk" while needs are assessed and a plan of action is developed.
     
  • "Safety Planning" - SH&VP staff will help students assess their risk and make choices about steps to take to lessen their risk.
     
  • Relationship Violence Support Groups - topic driven support group offered during the fall and spring semester that discuss issues surrounding the "cycle of violence", self-esteem, safety, etc.
     
  • Referrals to Counseling - assistance in setting up an appointment with the USC Counseling and Human Development Center. The CHDC has staff specially trained to help students cope with issues surrounding interpersonal violence.
     
  • Academic Assistance - providing letters of support to faculty regarding extenuating circumstances.
     
  • Assistance with the Criminal Justice System - includes setting up appointments with law enforcement, prosecution, and other judicial officers. Provides accompaniment to all court proceedings, assistance with agencies such as "Victim Alert" and the victim's compensation fund, and assistance in obtaining orders of protection or restraining orders.
     
  • Assistance with the University Student Judicial System - includes setting up appointments with the Office of Student Judicial Programs if the alleged perpetrator is a University student and establishing official "no contact" requests. Staff from SH&VP will also accompany the "student-at-risk" to all judicial meetings and proceedings.
     
  • SH&VP advocates are available 24-hours a day to provide crisis intervention, assistance, and options counseling to survivors. To reach an on-call advocate, contact the USC Police Department at (803) 777-4215 and request that an on-call SH&VP advocate return your call..
