A
Safe Zone Ally is a member of the University community who is committed
to fighting homophobia and heterosexism, while offering visible support
to members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning
(GLBTQ) population. This program is designed to provide
interested members with information, resources, and guidance regarding
this often marginalized population and opportunities to support
students.
Safe Zone is willing to specifically tailor
the training to various campus departments (classroom instruction,
academic advising, research, student support & services, etc.).
Safe Zone Ally trainings are an excellent professional
development tool that explores facts and myths about GLBTQ issues and
skills training for those seeking to serve as Allies. The training
takes approximately two hours and our office will provide all the
materials needed for the training. Training for the spring 2010
semester will be held on the following dates at the Russell House ODK
room: Friday, February 26, from 12-2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, from 12-2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, from 12-2 p.m.
Contact Danielle Cook at cookkd@mailbox.sc.edu to register. General training sessions are open to all and listed on the calendar below.
The Safe Zone Ally Project will be
participating in a number of GLBT related events and
recommend that you participate in other events around
the Columbia area. These events will be updated as more
information becomes available. For more information
