Trainings and Programs Available

SafeZone offers a myriad of programs revolving around the GLBTQ experience. The following is a list of some of the programs we offer.
  • GLBTQ 101
    Basic information about the GLBTQ community. Including terminology, symbols, history, and a discussion of homophobia. (1 hour and 30 minutes)
     
  • SafeZone Ally Development Training
    This training is specifically geared toward developing allies for the SafeZone program. This training focuses on the coming out process and resources for GLBTQ students, as well as information on how to participate in the ally program. This training is usually coupled with the GLBTQ 101 but all allies are required to attend a GLBTQ 101 and an Ally Development Training session to be full members of the program. (1 hour and 30 minutes)
     
  • Gay U101
    This program is geared specifically towards U101 classes. The class ranges in topics from GLBTQ terminology and trivia to gender roles in society. Activities include guided imagery of GLBTQ student experience and privilege walk. (50 minutes)
     
  • Transgender 101
    This program focuses solely on the transgender community. Topics include a discussion of gender identity, gender roles, transvestites, and transsexuality.
    (1 hour)
     
  • The Joys of Gay Sex
    This presentation focuses on safe sex practices for gay men and lesbians. The program discusses safe sex in a fun and interactive way. (1 hour)
     
  • Gays in the Residence Halls
    This program is geared specifically towards Resident Advisors at USC. The program discusses working with GLBTQ residents and goes over basic GLBTQ information. (1 hour)
     
  • Gays in Greek Life
    This program is geared towards Fraternities and Sororities. This is basically a sensitivity training for Greek organizations revolving around GLBTQ issues
    (1 hour).
     
  • The Down Low
    This program focuses on the “Down Low” which is a phenomenon of heterosexual African-American men who secretly engage in homosexual activity. The program discusses what the phenomenon is and the implications for the African-American community (1 hour).
