The purpose of the Student Success Center is to coordinate an intentionally-designed, comprehensive array of programs, resources, and services that guide undergraduate students to degree completion at USC through promoting academic goal-setting and skill development, personal transition to the university setting, and effective decision-making.

Below are opportunities within the SSC that offer undergraduate students an opportunity to provide course-specific assistance to their peers.


SI Leader/Tutor

Qualifications:

SI Leaders & Tutors must…

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Earn an A in the subject area in which they wish to support
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Submit a faculty recommendation from a faculty member in the field they wish to support
  • Demonstrate in an interview their communication skills, motivation, dedication and ability to work with undergraduate students in an academic setting

Application deadline for Fall 2013 has passed.  However, you may still apply in the chance that a position will open up for the Fall.  We will be in contact with you if we need additional SI leaders or Tutors.

CCA Peer Advisor

The role of the Peer Advisor will be to work with students on an individual basis, assessing and enhancing their advising experience at the University of South Carolina. The Peer Advisors are the frontlines to our CCA services and meets with all students for a 20 minute initial intake appointment.

Cross Campus Advising Peer Advisors fulfill 4 main functions:

  • Guide: Help students stay on course, navigate the system (due dates, app requirements), circumvent potential obstacles or stumbling blocks to success that commonly occur at certain stages in the college experience
  • Meaning Maker: Help students understand the ‘why, make sense of the college experience and enable them to see the “connection” between their present academic experience and their future plans
  • Referral Agent: Enable students to seek out appropriate resources, and connect students with relevant academic support and student development services in a timely and sensitive manner
  • Trouble Shooter: Develop an understanding of curriculum requirements, application deadlines, important academic dates, and university policies”

Qualifications:

A Cross Campus Advising Peer Advisor must…

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) and at least 30 USC credit hours earned
  • Have at least two recommendations, a faculty recommendation and a staff/faculty/supervisor recommendation
  • Demonstrate in an interview their communication skills, motivation, dedication and general understanding of the advising process at USC

Financial Literacy Peer Mentors

Qualifications:

Financial Literacy Interns must…

  • Be an undergraduate student.
  • Have a 3.0 or above.
  • Be a rising sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Submit all application materials on time (which includes a faculty/staff recommendation).
  • Have past experience with finance. Such as a Personal Finance classes, Internships, outside involvement (treasurer), volunteer experience, etc.
  • Demonstrate in an interview their communication skills, motivation, dedication, and ability to work with undergraduate students in an advising capacity.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with others, or independently, as needed.
  • Willingness and desire to learn about financial management.

Financial Literacy Interns Recruitment Timeline

This timeline is subject to change and all applicants will be notified of any modifications

  • Internship Date- March 4th- April 19th
  • Spring Orientation- March 4th (4 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
  • Fall Orientation – August 2013 (Date & Time TBD)
