The purpose of the Student Success Center is to coordinate an intentionally-designed, comprehensive array of programs, resources, and services that guide undergraduate students to degree completion at USC through promoting academic goal-setting and skill development, personal transition to the university setting, and effective decision-making.

Below are opportunities within the SSC that offer undergraduate students an opportunity to provide course-specific assistance to their peers.

Apply to be an SSC Peer Leader for Fall 2014! 

Peer Leader Recruitment Timeline- Hiring for Fall 2014:

Peer Tutor, SI Leader, Financial Literacy Peer Educator, and Peer Caller positions available for Fall 2014!

  • Priority Application Deadline- March 7
  • Information Sessions- Week of February 24
  • Mandatory Group Interview- March 17-March 20 (All candidates must attend one)
  • All Application materials (Transcript, Resume, and a Faculty Recommendation  and/or a staff/faculty/supervisor recommendation) submitted to the Student Success Center- March 21
  • Individual Interviews- March 31-April 11
  • Notify Selected Candidates- April 18
  • Spring New Hire Meeting- April 29

All SSC Peer Leaders must:

  • Demonstrate in an interview their communication skills, motivation, dedication and ability to work with undergraduate students in an academic/advising setting
  • Act as academic role models to their peers through their role as an SSC Peer Leader
  • Participate in SSC Orientation on August 19th , programmatic training for their position August 14th, 15th, and 20th
  • Participate in the SSC Peer Leader Training Cohort that meets weekly during the first semester of their hiring

SI Leader

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Earn an A in the subject area in which they wish to support
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • At least15 USC credit hours earned

 SI Leader Job Description 

SSC Peer Caller

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Earn an A in the subject area in which they wish to support
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.75 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Have previous experience in customer service related positions such as administrative tasks (answering phones, Microsoft Office proficiency and organizational management)

SSC Peer Caller Position Description

Peer Tutor

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Earn an A in the subject area in which they wish to support
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • At least 15 USC credit hours earned

Peer Tutoring Program Job Description

Cross College Peer Advisor

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • At least 30 USC credit hours earned

CCA Peer Advisor Job Description

Financial Literacy Peer Educator

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina-Columbia
  • Have a 3.0 or above.
  • Be a rising sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Submit all application materials on time (which includes a faculty/staff recommendation).
  • Have past experience with finance. Such as a Personal Finance classes, Internships, outside involvement (treasurer), volunteer experience, etc.
  • Willingness and desire to learn about financial management.
