Creative Director, Student Media
Department of Student Life
University of South Carolina
Office: Russell House, Suite 340
Edgar Santana has served as creative director for Student Media since 2006. In this position, he is responsible for the creative efforts of the office, serves as staff advisor to the four media student organizations and two ancillary groups, supervises full-time and student staff and oversees the office’s IT and operational needs.
Edgar’s past experience includes work in the art department at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as a graphic artist where he performed layout and design work for a variety of environmental and health care clients, as well as created custom illustrations for promotions. He later worked for Wingate Advertising, a small local advertising agency that primarily serves small businesses and independent banks in South Carolina, as an art director and assistant accounts manager for nine years.
At Carolina, Edgar currently is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support Information Technology Workgroup and the Tobacco Free USC communications subcommittee.
Edgar earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the University of South Carolina in 1995. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, music and the outdoors. He volunteers with the Columbia International Festival as a planning committee member and has served as a volunteer language interpreter with the S.C. Mission Midlands, which provides free health care services to underserved populations in the midlands area of South Carolina. He grew up in Puerto Rico, but he’s lived in South Carolina for so long that he says he speaks Spanish with a Southern accent! Edgar always has been involved in visual arts taking classes in high school and drawing and painting in college. Primarily, he’s done portraits in acrylics, pastels and pencil.
Edgar’s favorite part about working at USC is helping students find their way through the college experience and knowing that what we do at USC does impact their lives in a positive way.
