| Welcome to the Supplemental
Instruction Program at the University of South Carolina.
SI is a
learning enhancement program which consists of a series of
weekly review sessions for students enrolled in historically
difficult courses. Sessions are open to all students who
want to improve their understanding of the course material, as
well as their grades. Attendance is voluntary and offers
students a chance to get together with classmates to compare
notes, discuss important concepts, and develop strategies for
studying.
SI sessions are led by SI leaders,
students who have earned A’s in these historically difficult
courses and have been identified by faculty as having a mastery
of the subject matter. SI leaders attend class with students,
take notes, and complete class reading and homework
assignments. SI leaders participate in extensive training to
learn how to help students think about the class lectures and
assignments and offer helpful tips that incorporate how to learn
with what to learn.
