University
names Thomas Halasz career center director
Thomas Halasz has joined the University of South Carolina as the
new director of its Career Center.
The
former associate director for career networks at the University
of Florida, Halasz also has served in several capacities at Duke
University’s career center, including as associate director for
counseling and programs and associate director for employee
relations.
“I
am very pleased to have Tom join the Carolina family,” said
Scott Verzyl, assistant vice provost for enrollment management
and director of undergraduate admissions. “He brings great
energy and talent to the Career Center, which will benefit our
students as they prepare for the competitive global economy. I
am looking forward to Tom's leadership in this important facet
of our university.”
Halasz earned
a bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Michigan
University and a master’s degree in counseling from the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
He is the
author of a chapter in the book “Career Counseling of College
Students” and is an active member of the National Association of
Colleges and Employers.
“This is an
exciting time to join the University of South Carolina and the
Career Center,” said Halasz. “I look forward to working closely
with faculty and staff across the university, the great alumni
network, a group of tremendous employers and the wonderful
students of the university.”
The center
coordinates programs and services that include career
counseling, job fairs, resume critiques, online job banks and
mock interviews.
