07/20/12 – John Gardner, an educator who made the University of South Carolina an international leader in improving students’ freshman-year experience, will speak at the USC summer commencement exercises Aug. 4.

Gardner, the former director of University 101 and founder of the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, also will receive an honorary doctoral degree in education.

07/19/12 – Six TRIO Ronald E. McNair program participants from the University of South Carolina placed at a regional undergraduate research conference in Atlanta in June.

Seventeen students from the USC program, which provides opportunities to prepare TRIO-eligible students for doctoral studies, presented their research at the annual Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP)/McNair undergraduate research conference. More than 500 students from 25 colleges and universities attended.
