Sept. 7, 2016
This week, University of South Carolina Student Government announced the successful formation of a new partnership with Uber. This agreement will offer USC students a discounted and convenient safe ride option on and near campus.
Starting Sept. 8, users will be able to receive a 25 percent discount on Uber Safe Rides Thursday through Saturday from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Students can request a Safe Ride to their destination within the designated geographic Uber pickup zone. To receive the discount, students must register their Uber account with their university email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) and use a promo code. This trial period will end on October 1.
Following the conclusion of the pilot agreement on October 1, negotiations for a longer agreement may take place. Student Government is using its own funds to support the current agreement.
Student Government is dedicated to ensuring safety for all students through safe ride and travel programs such as Gotcha Rides, Walk Home Cocky and now an Uber partnership. Student safety is one of Student Government’s greatest concerns, and now with Uber Safe Rides there is just one more option to help keep all students protected on their way home.
