The Communications Team acts as the foremost advisors to the Student Body Executive Officers on communications, media relations, public relations, and specific policy stances. They also help promote Student Government projects and initiatives through external communications and manages the external communications.
Abby Meister serves as the Director of Communications. She is a junior broadcast journalism and political science student at South Carolina Honors College. Abby’s passion lies where communications and politics intersect. She has interned on Capitol Hill and at the Environmental Protection Agency. She currently works as a law clerk at a criminal defense firm and as an Assistant Producer for SCETV’s public affairs show This Week in South Carolina. On campus, Abby is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In her free time, you can find Abby chugging coffee, listening to podcasts, and excessively quoting The Office.
Briana Hall is the VP Deputy Press Secretary of the Student Body Vice President’s Office. She is a junior majoring in public relations and minoring in political science. Briana is very involved in her sorority Alpha Chi Omega, where she is the Intramural Chair and Greek Week Chair. In these positions she helped create co-recreational teams as Intramural Chair and helped her sorority win Greek Week this past spring. She also traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras in the spring of 2016 with Students Helping Honduras to help build a middle school for a near-by village.
Clare Hachten is a junior in the Honors College studying Economics and International Business. She began her student government journey with Freshman Council, continuing on to serve as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, and now, as the Director of Organizational Outreach for the Communications Team. She currently conducts policy research for the Education and Public Works Committee in the South Carolina House of Representatives and hopes to pursue a Ph.D in Economics upon graduation.
Grace McKenna serves as the Deputy Director of Communications. She is a junior broadcast journalism major and political science minor. Grace is also the Assistant Director of Communications for Gamecock Pantry and holds an executive position in her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta.
Rachel Stein is a junior public relations major with a minor in political science from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Within Student Government, Rachel serves as the Press Secretary for the Office of the Vice President. On campus, Rachel is a member of Alpha Chi Omega and has served on morale and the executive staff for USC Dance Marathon. Rachel is also an intern at NP Strategy, a strategic communications firm, and is the intern coordinator for the South Carolina Democratic Party.
Emily Stone is a senior Public Relations major with a minor in Political Science and serves as Press Secretary and Social Media Coordinator. Her three favorite things are social media, politics, and dogs. She can’t wait for an amazing year with Student Government.
