During Pillars for Carolina, peer mentors and participants volunteer with Cocky’s Reading Express, a campus literacy project that was initiated by Student Government almost 10 years ago.
The first ever Pillars for Carolina program took place June 21 through 25, 2011. Freshman students enjoyed Carolina BBQ, Cocky’s Reading Express, learning about Gamecock traditions at Williams-Brice Stadium and began to make Carolina their home. Students who participated in the program stated that they feel more confident about life in the classroom, gained valuable knowledge of campus and forged bonds with many new friends, faculty and staff members.
