APA Accredited Doctoral Internship in Health Services Psychology Counselor Training Program for EdS Candidates

    Counselor Training Program for EdS Candidates

    The Counseling & Psychiatry department within SHS serves as a practicum and internship clinical placement site for individuals enrolled in the marriage and family track of the University of South Carolina’s EdS Counselor Education Program. Placement at Counseling & Psychiatry is for a full academic year, 36 hours per week, including a stipend consistent with a half time Graduate Assistantship.

    Our mission is to provide a training environment that facilitates trainees’ transition from graduate students to professional counselors. The Counseling & Psychiatry counselor trainee program builds upon the theoretical, empirical, and clinical foundations that trainees receive from their academic program. We provide a comprehensive practice environment that offers high quality services to students of the University of South Carolina. Since our ethical mandate is for trainees to provide professional services to our clientele, the training staff at Counseling & Psychiatry offers a comprehensive training program that attends to conceptual, methodological, personal, and creative skills necessary for the practice of counseling.

Social Work Training Program for MSW Candidates

    Social Work Training Program for MSW Candidates

    The Counseling & Psychiatry department of SHS serves as a field placement site for individuals enrolled in an accredited MSW Program who are seeking an individual, family, and group concentration. ¬†Priority is given to candidates enrolled in USC’s social work program, however candidates from other programs who have fulfilled prerequisites commensurate with USC’s standards, may also apply. Placement at Counseling & Psychiatry is for a full academic year, 16 hours per week, typically on a Monday/Tuesday schedule.

    Our mission is to provide a training environment that facilitates trainees’ transition from graduate students to professional social workers. The Counseling & Psychiatry MSW trainee program builds upon the theoretical, empirical, and clinical foundations that trainees receive from their academic program. We provide a comprehensive practice environment that offers high quality services to students of the University of South Carolina. Since our ethical mandate is for trainees to provide professional services to our clientele, the training staff in Counseling & Psychiatry offer a comprehensive training program that attends to conceptual, methodological, personal, and creative skills necessary for the practice of counseling.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Resident Counselor

    Dear Prospective Applicant:

    We appreciated your interest in our Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and hope that you find the information need to make a decision about applying for our program. Click on the link below to learn more about our Center and our programming.

    Counseling and Psychiatry is a fully integrated service division of Student health Services here at the University of South Carolina. Our diverse staff is dedicated and invested in training, mentoring, and developing our post-doctoral fellows for their early careers as psychologist. We are a team oriented staff that values consultation and provides a warm and supportive environment to enhance professional growth in a busy center.

    Applicants must complete all requirements for the doctoral degree at a Counseling or Clinical psychology program prior to the start date of the fellowship. In addition, applicants must have completed an APA-accredited internship at a university or college counseling center and actively value social justice.
