Frequently Asked Questions

1. What information needs to be with my prescription?
Bring your USC ID with you. Also bring your Prescription Insurance Card and any discount cards you may want to use.  A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all controlled-substance prescriptions, so please bring your ID with you.

2. Does the pharmacy accept all insurance cards?
The Pharmacy accepts most major prescription insurance plans. Please bring your Prescription Insurance Card.

3. Can I bring in a prescription or a refill from an outside doctor or pharmacy?
Yes, the pharmacy can fill prescriptions written by doctors outside of the Health Center. Also, we will be glad to call an outside pharmacy to transfer any remaining refills you might have on a prescription at that location. Please provide the pharmacy name, phone number, and the prescription name or number if possible. Please allow 24 hours to complete the transfer.

4. How can I get my prescription refilled?
You may refill prescriptions 24 hours a day online at and by phone at 803-777-4890. You will need your current prescription number to use these options. You can always call the Pharmacy and speak to a pharmacy staff member who will be glad to refill your prescription or just walk in and request a refill.

5. I don't have time to wait. When is the best time for me to come in?
The busiest times of the day are between the hours of 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Mornings are the least busy.

6. I'm going away for the summer (holidays, semester, etc). How can I be sure to have enough medication?
We will gladly work with your insurance company to see if they allow for a vacation supply. If there is no insurance involvement, you can get enough medication to get you through the time you will be gone. We can mail your non controlled prescription to you for a $5 charge.  We can also transfer your prescription to your home town pharmacy for the break and transfer back any remaining refills when you return.

7. Can someone else (roommate, friend, family member, etc.) pick up my prescription(s) for me?
Yes, if someone is going to pickup your order for you, you must call the Pharmacy and tell us who that will be. They must present positive picture ID.

8. Does the Pharmacy sell over-the-counter products?

Yes, the pharmacy has a variety of products available without a prescription. These products include medications for relief of pain, colds, coughs, allergies, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, acid reflux and other problems.

9.  Can I purchase Pseudoephedrine products at the Pharmacy?

Yes, pseudoephedrine products can be purchased at the pharmacy. If you do not have a prescription for a pseudoephedrine product, the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act must be followed and requires: storage behind-the-counter in the pharmacy, limits on quantities, government issued photo identification and signature in a log book.

10.  How can I get the Plan B® emergency contraceptive?
Plan B emergency contraceptive is available in our pharmacy and can be purchased without a prescription.

11.  How long does it take to fill a prescription?
It takes about 15-20 minutes to fill a prescription.  The pharmacy fills prescriptions in the order they are received. However, there are certain situations that will increase the normal wait time.  Some patients have multiple prescriptions, have insurance problems, the pharmacist might need to consult with the physician about a potential problem with the prescription, or a patient may need additional counseling by the pharmacist. All of these things may make your wait longer. The pharmacy staff is working as quickly as possible to accurately fill your prescriptions, checking for potential drug interactions and/or drug allergies, following all laws and regulations, and making sure that you feel comfortable with the medication that you are given and have had all of your questions answered before you leave the facility.

12.  How do I pay for my medications?

We accept cash, Visa and MasterCard, Discover, American Express, check or the Carolina Card.

13.  Where can I park?
The pharmacy offers free 30 minute parking spaces in the Bull Street Garage for pharmacy customers.
