Four USC representatives honored at 2018 Civic Engagement Leadership Summit

Four USC representatives will be honored at the 2018 Civic Engagement Leadership Summit, April 13, 2018. Each year, South Carolina Campus Compact (SCCC) member campuses submit nominations/honorees for the SCCC awards. Statewide recipients are selected by a committee. Three of the four USC representatives are campus honorees and one representative is a statewide award winner.

Waverly Afterschool Program – South Carolina Student Organization Service Achievement Award – Statewide Award Recipient

This award is presented to a student organization who has exhibited outstanding leadership and innovative approaches in their community service or service-learning endeavors, addressed public issues, fostered community building, and integrated civic engagement into the college experience.

Emery Smith – South Carolina Student Service Achievement Award – Honoree

This award is presented to a student who has exhibited outstanding leadership and innovative approaches in their community service or service-learning endeavors both on their campus and within their community.

Dr. Patrick Hickey – South Carolina Faculty Award for Service Learning – Honoree

This award is presented to a faculty member who has demonstrated a commitment to the integration of service-learning into their curriculum and the use of innovative ways to connect students’ service with academics. This faculty member has significantly advanced their campus’ distinctive civic mission by forming strong partnerships, supporting others’ civic engagement, and working to institutionalize a culture and practice of engagement.

Dr. Jabari Bodrick – South Carolina Civic Engagement Professional Award – Honoree

This award is presented to a full-time professional staff member who has made significant contributions to the institutionalization of community engagement by inspiring a vision for service on the campus and supporting faculty, students, and/or campus-community partnerships.
