As the property manager for Phi Sigma Kappa, Jonathan Spencer is a full-time staff member of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. He is responsible for the quality of living in the fraternity house at the University of South Carolina. Primary duties include supervision of facility staff, support for student learning and development, residential program development and implementation, administration and facility management, crisis management and student counseling
Before coming to Carolina in July 2014, Jonathan held several positions, including working in Richland County (S.C.) School District One and serving as housing complex director at Allen University.
Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in management from South Carolina State University in 2003 and a Master of Arts in Education/Adult Education and Training in from the University of Phoenix in 2014.
Jonathan has been involved in several organizations. He served as a representative for the Southeastern Region of the NAACP, president vice president for the local chapter of the Young Democrats of America and presentation leader for Students in Free Enterprise.
Jonathan joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Chi Sigma Chapter, which is the Columbia, S.C. Alumni Chapter), in the spring of 2006. He has served as president (2008) and vice president (2007) of the chapter. As president, he was the youngest brother ever to serve this chapter in this role. In addition, Jonathan was elected in 2009 as first vice state director for the State of South Carolina for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Jonathan says he lives by the motto, “In order to become a successful leader, you must at first become a successful follower.”
