2015–2016

The Daily Gamecock students win nineteen state awards

Students working at The Daily Gamecock’s editorial and advertising design offices earned nineteen awards for excellence at the South Carolina Press Association’s 2016 Collegiate Meeting and Awards Presentation on April 8, 2016.

Third-year English and Russian student and former editor-in-chef, Benjamin Crawford, earned the distinguished Collegiate Journalist of the Year award for his work done in the spring and fall 2015 semesters. Work included editorial leadership, feature stories and editorial writing.

The Daily Gamecock earned 10 other first-place awards including:

The South Carolina Press Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1852 to represent newspapers in South Carolina. It provides a variety of services to the state’s newspaper industry including lobbying, editorial and management training, FOIA guidance, advertising representation and workshops. Currently, SCPA represents 110 weekly and daily newspapers in the state including 15 collegiate newspapers.


The Daily Gamecock students win big at CMBAM national awards ceremony

Organization placed top 5 for Media Group of the Year, brought home 11 awards

University of South Carolina students working at The Daily Gamecock’s advertising sales, student marketing, editorial and creative services offices earned 11 awards for excellence, including two first place national awards, at the national College Media Business and Advertising Managers (CMBAM) conference held March 9-12 in Denver, Col.

Fourth-year art studio major Brandon Brazell earned a national first place Designer of the Year award. Brazell is a student designer at The Daily Gamecock’s Creative Services office. This is the first time a student working at The Daily Gamecock’s Creative Services office has earned a top national award in this category.

For the second consecutive year, The Daily Gamecock’s print special publication Carolina Insider 2015-2016 earned a national first place Best Orientation Publication award. This publication is distributed to incoming students, parents and the campus community during summer orientations.

CMBAM is an all-volunteer organization committed to providing learning and career opportunities and fostering leadership development to students through conventions and member communications. Annual conventions feature dozens of sessions led by national industry experts, professionals and advisers. CMBAM began in 1972 with a few schools, but today it has more than 125 member colleges and universities.
