What is AlcoholEdu/Haven?

What are AlcoholEdu and Haven?
AlcoholEdu is an online alcohol education assessment that measures student’s perceptions about alcohol use and abuse prior to arriving on campus and after several weeks on campus.

Haven is an online sexual assault education and training module that presents realistic and interactive skill-building scenarios. In accordance with federal mandates, this program will serve as one way students at South Carolina receive education and training on sexual assault prevention.

How long will AlcoholEdu take?
The course takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete, and is broken down into 2 parts. AlcoholEdu Part 1 takes approximately 2 hours to complete, and Part 2 takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. You will have a 30-45 day intersession between Part 1 and Part 2 of the course.

How long will Haven take?
The course takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete, and is broken down into 2 parts. Haven Part 1 takes approximately 1 hour to complete, and Part 2 takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. You will have a 30-45 day intersession between Part 1 and Part 2 of the course.

When can I get started?
Part 1 of each course will be available beginning July 17. Log in to Self Service Carolina and follow the links provided from the AlcoholEdu and Haven webpage to access each respective course.

Is there a passing score required for AlcoholEdu and/or Haven?
Satisfaction of AlcoholEdu requirements is contingent upon scoring 80% or higher on Part 1 as well as completing Part 2 of the course. There is no concept of pass/fail in Haven. Completion of Haven is contingent upon completing both Part 1 and Part 2 of the course.

When are AlcoholEdu and Haven due?
The deadline for completing Part 1 of AlcoholEdu with a passing score of 80% and Part 1 of Haven is August 16. The deadline for completing Part 2 of AlcoholEdu and Part 2 of Haven is October 17.

What happens if I do not complete the courses?
If you choose not to complete both Part 1 and 2 of AlcoholEdu and Parts 1 and 2 of Haven by October 17, a hold will be placed on your record, making you ineligible to register for Spring 2015 semester courses.
